Applications Now Accepted for “Tomorrow’s Writers Today” Tuition-Free Youth Workshop Saturday, May 14

by Artistic Director on April 14, 2011

Do you have a son or daughter who likes to write?  The Cape Cod Writers Center announces applications are now available for the “ Tomorrow’s Writers Today” (TWT) workshop  for  local student fiction writers ages 13-18  on Saturday, May 14, 2011.

This workshop, which takes place at the Barnstable Intermediate School on Route 28 in Hyannis,  is the second of the tuition-free Saturday sessions offered by the Writers Center this spring.  An extension of the Center’s 25-year old Young Writers program held during the Center’s  summer conference, TWT offers Cape Cod students an opportunity to work  with prominent authors to improve their writing, enhance literary skills and learn about the publishing industry. A free box lunch is provided for all who attend.

“We were thrilled by the students’ enthusiastic response to our first TWT program on March 26 and expect that the May 14 workshop will be equally popular, since many students enjoy writing fiction,” said Nancy Rubin Stuart, Artistic Director of the Cape Cod Writers Center.

Students who attend the Saturday, May 14 program, will study with writer/teacher/editor  Anne Sanow and author Heidi Jon Schmidt.  Ms. Sanow ‘s story collection Triple Time recently won the L. L. Winship/PEN New England Award for Fiction and received a  2010 literature fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Ms. Schmidt is the author of The House on Oyster Creek and three other novels.  Her work has been published in “The Atlantic”, “The New York Times” and anthologized in The O’Henry Awards, Best American Nonrequired Reading,

The TWT program is funded in part by the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the Edward Bangs Kelley and Elza Kelley Foundation, the Cape Cod Foundation and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
