Excitement rippled through the conference room at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa among the 53 authors who attended the Cape Cod Writers Center’s Self-Publishing Workshop on Saturday, March 16.
That’s because they spent the day listening to three fabulous speakers explain self-publishing or “indie books” –the fastest growing sector of the publishing industry that now captures 43% of all books published.
After morning coffee and snacks, the morning opened with a talk and Power Point presentation by Lisa Akory-Ross of Sweet Dream Publishers.
Following lunch, Jenny Hudson of Merrimack Media fascinated the audience with her approach to self-publishing and promotion.
A short break followed during which audience members had a chance to speak with the presenters and examine displays of their recently-published books.
Stephanie Blackman of Riverhaven Books then presented an intriguing description of how and why she helps authors become published.
Here’s a sampling of comments from the participants:
“The presenters concentrated on the nuts and bolts of self-publishing — it really worked! “
“Seeing the numerous options I understood how much is involved ! “
“Very helpful…all the presenters were great”
“Each speaker was well prepared and personable.”
This was a detailed exposition of services and costs and an opportunity to contact the presenters”
“There was a lot of interesting information I did not know.”
“Some presenters, though representing companies, had lots of information on the process rather than their product! “
Loved how personable and open to questions the presenters were.”
” The breadth of services offered by the presenters and the detail provided helped us understand the importance of the services.”
