On Saturday, June 1, an enthusiastic group of writers gathered at Cape Cod Writers Center’s latest workshop to learn about copyrights, contracts, and other legal issues related to writing in the digital age. Presenter Sara Beccia, an attorney with Burns & Levinson LLP, generously shared expertise from her practice counseling clients on copyright protection, publishing agreements and infringement issues.
Participants learned about intellectual property, fair use, and the vocabulary of copyright and contract law, with time to have their individual questions answered as well. Comments from participants included “Fantastic!” and “Outstanding!” and praised Ms. Beccia for doing “a wonderful job of simplifying complex concepts.”
Writers often feel at sea when confronted with the many legal matters related to their craft. This workshop, however, helped one group of writers feel safe on dry land.
