Young Writers Workshops
Every summer, CCWC hosts the Young Writers Workshop, a creative writing program for students ages 12-18 from the schools of Cape Cod and southern New England, during the week of our Annual Conference. Students are selected on a competitive basis, and those unable to pay are given a tuition-free scholarship.
In 2014, the workshop will be held from August 4-8 at the Barnstable Intermediate School in Hyannis and will offer two-and-a-half hour morning sessions for young writers. Three prominent author-teachers work with the students to improve their literary skills in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. This year’s faculty are novelist Arlene Kay, poet John Bonanni, and columnist and nature writer Mary Richmond.
The Young Writers Workshop, now in its third decade, remains one of the highlights of our annual summer conference. Students have a chance to meet and form friendships with others writers from area schools, as well as receive individual help and advice from published authors.
Cape Cod Writer Center judges are currently reviewing applications for 2014. Students will be notified of their acceptance the week of July 14. There is no charge to apply; the only cost is a $50 registration fee payable on acceptance, and no student will be turned away because of inability to pay.
