Playwriting 101 (20 May 2026)

Learn how to write a play by Playwright/Director Michael Solomowitz

Michael Solomowitz will teach you the basics of using characters, dialogue, and plot to get your play from the page to the stage.

Mr. Solomowitz's works include several full-length plays, as well as multiple one-act plays produced at the Northport One-Act Play Festival on Long Island, the Academy of Performing Arts in Orleans, Cape Cod, and the Night Flight Theater in Burbank, CA, among others. His Divine Comedy: A Farce, Parody, Satire & Spoof, an evening of four of his one-act plays, was produced in June 2023 at the Curtain Call Theater outside of Boston.

He began his career writing scripts for Manhattan Cable TV and has written for Warner Bros. in Hollywood. His debut novel, BEHIND THE FOURTH WALL, a psychological mystery about a New York playwright who comes to Cape Cod and learns the truth of his wife's sudden death, was published in 2022. His latest novel, LAST STOP, CONEY ISLAND, is being shopped around to agents.

Practice Your Pitch (17 Jun 2026)

Practice pitching your manuscript to fellow authors & editors!

Practice pitching your manuscript at this month’s Writers Night Out! You will have two minutes to convince our discerning membership – including fellow authors and editors – why they should be interested in your book. Critique and suggestions will be given by our audience along with a vote for the evening’s best pitch.

The personal pitch is one of the most critical skills for all writers. You’ll need it to sell your book or story idea to a time-pressed agent or editor, to promote your work to the media, and to place it on your website and/or social media accounts.

By popular demand, the CCWC’s June WNO again offers you the opportunity to practice your pitch before an audience, hear their reactions, and learn what works best. Even if you’re not ready to pitch or submit to an agent or editor now, come and enjoy the company of your friends and fellow writers and get a taste of what pitching is all about.

Presenting participants must be CCWC members. The maximum time allowed is 2 minutes (yes, you will be timed!). There are 10-15 slots available, on a first-come, first-served basis. To ensure your place, please contact: writers@capecodwriterscenter.org
