This presentation explores how to assemble short pieces of writing into a longer memoir. Learn about the evolution of the mosaic memoir and take a closer look at examples of work by published authors to see how they use short pieces as building blocks for a narrative. Try out a short piece of your own and leave with new ideas for moving forward with your writing projects.

Clara Silverstein is the Boston-based author of the memoir White Girl: A Story of School Desegregation, the historical novel Secrets in a House Divided, and four non-fiction books. Her articles and essays have been published in the Boston Globe, Runner’s World, and several literary magazines. She teaches at Grub Street Writers in Boston and previously directed the Chautauqua Writer’s Center.
