As a former editor at Random House, Diane O’Connell could tell from the first five pages  whether the writing showed enough promise to read on or reject a submission. After a brief discussion of the traps to avoid in your first five pages, Diane will analyze several examples to provide an inside look at what strengths and weaknesses editors and agents look for which keep them reading.

Diane O’Connell, a former Random House editor, is author of six books, including the award-winning The Novel-Maker’s Handbook: The No-Nonsense Guide to Crafting a Marketable Story. As editorial director of Write to Sell Your Book she has helped dozens of authors achieve publishing success.
