Accessibility

Our Commitment

The Cape Cod Writers Center is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that the written word belongs to all, and that means our digital home should be welcoming and usable for every visitor — regardless of ability, assistive technology, or device.

We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Targeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Measures We Take

To support accessibility on our website, the Cape Cod Writers Center takes the following measures:

  • Include accessibility as part of our website maintenance and content update practices.
  • Provide text alternatives for non-text content, including images and graphics.
  • Ensure all pages can be navigated using a keyboard alone.
  • Use sufficient color contrast between text and background elements.
  • Ensure that text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • Provide clear, descriptive headings and page titles to aid navigation.
  • Ensure form fields and interactive elements are properly labeled.
  • Design content so it does not rely solely on color to convey information.
  • Caption or provide transcripts for video and audio content where feasible.
  • Conduct periodic accessibility reviews and act on findings in a timely manner.

Known Limitations

While we work diligently to improve the accessibility of our website, some content may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. Known limitations may include:

  • Some older PDF documents (such as program archives or historical publications) may not be fully screen-reader compatible. We are working to remediate these on a rolling basis.
  • Third-party embedded content (such as registration forms or event management widgets) may not be fully within our control. We advocate for accessible solutions when selecting third-party providers.
  • Certain image-heavy promotional materials may have limited text alternatives. We are improving our editorial process to address this.

We are actively working to resolve these issues and appreciate your patience as we make ongoing improvements.
