Executive Director Nancy Rubin Stuart is an award-winning author whose books feature women and social history. Beacon Press published POOR RICHARD’S WOMEN; Deborah Read Franklin and the Other Women Behind the Founding Father in March 2022. Nancy is also a contributing editor who writes the Missing in History column for the Saturday Evening Post.

Earlier books include DEFIANT BRIDES; The Untold Story of Two Revolutionary-Era Women Who Married Radical Men which the Wall Street Journal named one of the best five books on Revolutionary-era women; the widely acclaimed THE MUSE OF THE REVOLUTION: The Secret Pen of Mercy Otis Warren and the Founding of a Nation and the national best-seller, AMERICAN EMPRESS; The Life and Times of Marjorie Merriweather Post.

Nancy is an ambassador for the Boston Chapter of the Authors Guild.

Her previous books include The Reluctant Spiritualist: The Life of Maggie Fox, published by Harcourt in 2005, the best-selling American Empress: The Life and Times of Marjorie Merriweather Post published by Villard in 1995, Isabella of Castile: The First Renaissance Queen published by St. Martin’s Press in 1991 (a Book-of-the Month Club Featured Dividend), The Mother Mirror: How A Generation of Women Is Changing Motherhood in America of 1984 published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons and The New Suburban Woman: Beyond Myth and Motherhood of 1982 published by Coward, McCann.

As a journalist, Nancy has contributed to The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The New England Quarterly, American History, Huffington Post and many other national publications.

Among her honors are a 2005 William Randolph Hearst Fellowship from the American Antiquarian Society, a 2009 Historic 1699 Winslow House Award and in 2010 a USA Book News “Best Book” finalist award. She was also a MacDowell Fellow and received a scholarship from the Bread Loaf Writers Conference.

As a speaker, Nancy has appeared on national television, NPR and before hundreds of live audiences in connection with her books. Nancy’s work has appeared in the New York Times, Huffington Post, the New England Quarterly and national magazines.
