Member News for January
Take a look at what our busy CCWC members have been up to. Here’s a roundup of our members’ writing news for January:
CCWC board member Ray Anderson has accepted an offer from Turner Publishing for his first novel. The Trail, a thriller, conceived when he thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2003, will be released in October, 2015.
Terri Arthur has signed a deal with a company that makes textbooks for English speaking high schoolers in France. They will be using excerpts from her book Fatal Decision: Edith Cavell WWI Nurse in their new textbook, which will have a 16,000 book printing.
Gustaf Berger’s short story “Victor Manure” has been accepted for publication by Kzine, a British print and online journal, for their September, 2015 edition.
Chip Bishop has been elected to the Advisory Board of the national Theodore Roosevelt Association (www.TheodoreRoosevelt.org). Chip is the author of two Roosevelt-themed books, the latest of which is Quentin & Flora: A Roosevelt and a Vanderbilt in Love During the Great War.
Harvest Home Books has added another e-book to its online collection: Cape Cod Harvest: A Gathering in of Cape Cod Stories by Jim Coogan and Jack Sheedy (first published 2007). Filled with history and lore, it is available on Amazon’s Kindle and Barnes & Noble’s Nook.
Mary Collins’s essay “Santa Baby” was published in Brevity magazine’s Christmas blog essay contest. Her essay “Grout” was accepted for publication by Talking Writing, and she was interviewed for a Meet the Author segment by Under the Gum Tree, following the publication of her essay, “Strays.”
Bill Cutcliffe recently published a 28 page book of poems, A Cape Cod Passion. The passion is poetry; most of the subjects are of Cape Cod. The book can be found on Amazon.
Devon Ellington’s short steampunk story “Loyalty Strata” appears in the anthology New Legends: Mercenaries, Engineers, Captains. She just signed a contract for Killer Quintet with Amber Quill Press.
CCWC board member Steven P. Marini will read from his latest novel, Calculation, on January 21 at 2:00 PM at The Hub, an arts center in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
Alexis Rankin Popik, CCWC member and author of Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate, is teaching a class of young writers at Our Sisters’ School in New Bedford in January. This will be her second session as OSS, an all-girls’ middle school whose goal is to “challenge each student to reach her full potential by developing academic competence, social confidence, cultural proficiency, intellectual curiosity, integrity and hope.
Ray Schumack is pleased to announce that an excerpt from his News Dispatches from the Korean War, about a deer wounded by artillery fire and saved by a squad from 3rd Division Recon Company, was included in an anthology published by the Military Writers Society of America titled All Gave Some.

Barbara Eppich Struna’s first novel, The Old Cape House has been selected for a promotion through Bookbub and will be available for $0.99 on Jan 23, 2015 online at Amazon, iTunes, and B&N. Former CCWC President Kevin Symmons has sold his fourth novel—a YA romantic thriller titled Chrysalis—to his award-winning publisher, Wild Rose Press.
Writer and dancer Katrina Valenzeula was accepted to National Association of Pen Women for both writing and choreography.
