Here’s a roundup of our busy CCWC Members’ writing news for September:
Catherine Allen of Orleans and Santa Fe has a new book coming out late September called Revolutionary Retirement: What’s Next For You? It is based on research with hundreds of Baby Boomers, who are reinventing their lives into the next chapter. Catherine and her co-authors are hosting a Reboot Your Life Retreat in Orleans, Ma. on October 10-12. For more information, go to www.rebootbreak.com/events.
Chip Bishop’s September Cape Cod event schedule includes talks and signings with the Cape Cod Capers at the Mashpee Senior Center September 8 at 1:30 p.m.; at the Falmouth Historical Society’s Museum on the Green, September 10 at 7 p.m.; and the Dennis Public Library in Dennisport September 26 at 1 p.m. His latest book is Quentin and Flora: A Roosevelt and a Vanderbilt in Love during the Great War.
Anita Ann Caruso, a local Brewster author, who wrote her memoir, “As Ever, Pudd”—A Love Story That Never Ends, Told in Letters, will talk about her book at the Brewster Council on Aging on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 1PM. Call to sign up at (508) 896- 2737. Anita, with Barbara Eppich Struna, and Yvonne deSousa will be selling their books at the Hyannis Shanty on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 10am-5pm.
Mary Collins of East Sandwich was awarded the 2014 Prize for Nonfiction ($500) by Solstice Literary Magazine for her personal essay “The Coverless Book.” The essay can be found at www.solsticelitmag.org.
Jim Coogan is proud to announce that Harvest Home Books (www.harvesthomebooks.com) has sold its 50,000th book. Not bad for a couple of local guys (Jack Sheedy and Jim) who have turned their self-publishing business into a very successful enterprise. Since 1999, Harvest Home Books has lived up to its motto: “Some of the best books about Cape Cod are written and published by Cape Codders.”
Marguerite Dennis will be interviewed by Melanie Lauwers, book editor for The Cape Cod Times for her local television program, Cape Cod Book Scene. They will discuss Marguerite’s book, The New College Guide: How to Get In, Get Out, and Get a Job.
Yvonne deSousa will be discussing how laughter helped her thrive in the aftermath of a chronic illness diagnosis and reading from her book MS Madness! A “Giggle More, Cry Less” Story of Multiple Sclerosis.This talk will take place on Saturday, September 13th at 11:00 AM at the Dennis Public Library. Giggles are guaranteed!

Mantrap the second novel in the Boston Uncommons series was released August 1st by Bell Bridge Books. Author Arlene Kay, exhausted (but elated) after the April release of Swann Dive, is gearing up for the October issuance of book #3 in the series. Whew!
Debra Lawless will be at the Charles-Baltivik Gallery, 432 Commercial Street, Provincetown, on Fri., Sept. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. signing her latest book Provincetown Since World War II: Carnival at Land’s End. This is also the opening night of a show of paintings by Andrea Sawyer.

“Tag Line,” a mystery story about sketch comedy, by Harriet Rzeteny, will be featured in the November issue of Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine. This issue will be on the stands in September, 2014.
The fifth Baby Boomer mystery penned by Cape author Susan Santangelo will be released by Suspense Publishing at a book launch party on October 5, 1 p.m., at the West Dennis Library, 260 Main Street (Route 28), West Dennis. There will be an author talk and books will be available for purchase.
Ray Shumack had so much fun writing his Snippets eBook he decided to start on Snippets 2, more humorous short pieces about growing up in The Great Depression. Snippets 2 will be called Time Changes Everything: Our Word Today, Our Great Depression Years.
Wendy Shreve met and gave a copy of her book, Shadowwater, to Mary Higgins Clark at a book signing in Brewster Recently. Wendy found the famous novelist lovely and gracious.
On Monday, September 8 at 7 p.m., Carol Smilgin will be reading from her unpublished novel, Concerto, at A Book In The Hand, held at the Jacob Sears Library in Dennis.
Jessica Max Stein completed her 70th interview for her book, Funny Boy: The Richard Hunt Biography, about Muppet performer Richard Hunt who died at 40 in the AIDS epidemic. For more information, see JessicaMaxStein.com.
Donna Walo-Clancy released her new book Keep the Faith, Ellen McGuire, on June 14, 2014. It’s available on Amazon in print and on Kindle.
