Steve Coronella

Author Steve Coronella.
Steve Coronella was born and reared in Medford, Massachusetts, a stone’s throw from Boston, the self-declared “Hub of the Universe.” He graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Boston in 1985 with a degree in English, a qualification that guaranteed him an interview with all the major fast food and retail outlets. After college he lived and worked for a time on Cape Cod, before marrying and settling in Dublin in the early 1990s, shortly before the ill-fated Celtic Tiger economic boom gripped Ireland. He denies any responsibility.
His humorous essays and op-eds have featured in many Boston area publications, such as the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Christian Science Monitor, Providence Journal, and Cape Cod Times, as well as on the Irish Times opinion page and in the paper’s esteemed Irishman’s Diary slot. Through syndication, his articles have appeared in newspapers in Alaska, California, Texas, and the American South, with the result that his work has seen more of the US than he has.
In 2009 he published the first of his column collections, This Thought’s On Me – A Boston Guy Reflects on Leaving the Hub, Becoming a Dub & Other Topics. Coronella was soon the talk of the town. Unfortunately, the town was no place he had ever heard of.
In 2013 he brought out Designing Dev, a Celtic Tiger era comic novel about an Irish-American lad from Boston who’s recruited to run for the Irish presidency, which was described by one perceptive critic as “without question a book of several thousand words.”
In 2016 Coronella had another go at the publishing game and gave the world Entering Medford – And Other Destinations, a follow-up compilation of his essays and humor. (The paperback edition appeared in the spring of 2024.) Commentators were again quick to note the prodigious word count. “I simply lost track!” exclaimed one breathless reviewer.
In 2022, Coronella decided the world was ready for Looking Homeward – Essays & Humor from a Misplaced American, which one astute critic likened to “several generous helpings of bite-sized Bill Bryson.” Bryson himself could not be reached for comment, but the popular historian and memoirist remains 100% whole and intact, according to reports.
All of Coronella’s books are available directly from the author by prior arrangement at a T station near you. (He’ll be the guy explaining to Transit Police that he isn’t a licensed street vendor per se.)
Alternatively, you can find Coronella’s impressive catalog on Amazon.
